FD Endowment Foundation and Triple J Announces ‘first-of-its-kind’ FDMS Sports Scholarship

Friday, May 6, 2016

On Friday, May 6th, Triple J presented the FD Endowment Foundation with a check for $25,000 for the first-of-its-kind sports scholarship available to incoming and current FDMS students – the Triple J Football Scholarship.

The Triple J Football Scholarship will offer financial assistance to FDMS students, with priority given to athletes who wish to, or are currently playing football at FDMS for academic year 2016 and beyond. This scholarship embodies the FDMS mission, which aims to prepare young men for college, foster and develop their faith and leadership in service of the Guam community at large.
“My brother and I are FDMS alumni, my nephews Jake and Kai are second generation alumni, and we were always encouraged to be positive role models and quality citizens through an emphasis on the FDMS virtues of respect, dedication, loyalty, commitment, and enthusiasm,” said Jeff Jones, President and COO of Triple J Enterprises, Inc. “The scholarship program supports our goal of promoting leadership in the community as our alumni players go on to experience excellence both on the field and in their personal lives.”
Jay Jones, Senior Vice President of Triple J Enterprises, Inc. went on to say, “We are honored to be able to support FDMS in providing a competitive scholarship to deserving students who not only demonstrate financial need, but who are good citizens and have both academic and athletic abilities.
This means a great deal to Triple J and to my family, to be able to give back to FD and their football program – Jeff, myself and my son Jake played Friar football, we also know opportunities like this give young athletes an edge in maximizing their potential.”
When asked what this means to the FD Endowment Foundation, Chairman N. Oscar Miyashita, CPA/PFS AIFA® said, “The FD Endowment Foundation welcomes Triple J and the Jones’ Sports Scholarship to the FDMS and Endowment Foundation family. This scholarship provides much needed financial support for FDMS students, especially to those who excel in sports and maintain a healthy grade point average. Just like that old adage that says ‘a healthy body breeds a healthy mind’, this first ever sports scholarship at FDMS will certainly help a talented and gifted student succeed. I want to thank the Jones’ and Triple J for their support.”
Father Jeffrey San Nicolas, FDMS Principal added, “The establishment of the Triple J/Jones Scholarship is an admirable testimony to Triple J’s support of our island’s youth and their belief in the good work taking place at FD. As the only all boys school on Guam and in the region, we at FD know the tremendous opportunity we have to form our next generation of young men to be virtuous leaders. The growing challenges our youth face in society today make this Triple J/Jones Scholarship a meaningful gift that will impact the lives of many deserving FD students. We are sincerely grateful for the generosity and leadership of the Jones family. Si Yu’us Ma’ase’.”
